Abstract

In the June 1987 issue of OCLC Micro I wrote about the MicroMARC:amc software developed at Michigan State University for use with the USMARC Archival and Manuscript Control Format (AMC). Since then the number of users has doubled and the next version of the system has been developed. Version 2.0 incorporates improvements users indicated they would like to see in the system. Here's a brief description of the changes and what they mean to users. For a complete description of the system, please see OCLC Micro, vol. 3, no. 3, pp. 14–16.

Abstract

MicroMARC:amc, a USMARC AMC Format Microcomputer‐Based Local System for the Description and Management of Archival Records, Manuscript Collections, and Related Materials, was developed as both an alternative to the online bibliographic databases and as a complementary system. For many archives, historical societies, and other repositories that have archival materials, subscribing to OCLC or the Research Libraries Group is not practical for many reasons. For these libraries, a standalone local system that can interface with other systems using the MARC AMC format, e.g., OCLC, can be extremely useful. Such a system can be used to create the bibliographic record and as an automated system used to manage the repository's holdings.
